The year 1795 brought California its first recorded cannabis crop. Things have changed. This year, the cannabis industry clocked in at $54 billion in sales.

We are a team of communications professionals who watched from the sidelines as the cannabis industry became legalized. As we continued to excel in disciplines like luxury fashion, entertainment, tech, and lifestyle, we watched incredulously as our industry failed to keep up with the growing cannabis sector.

We decided to stop watching from the sidelines.

We are 1795 Communications, the first firm dedicated solely to cannabis products, destinations, and the ever-expanding industry.

Priscila Martinez

Priscila Martinez is a brand strategy specialist. She specializes in navigating lifestyle and entertainment clients through the ever-changing media landscape. She currently services brands like Samsung Home Appliances, Amazon Prime Video, ELLE Magazine, K-Swiss, LVMH and L’Oreal’s NYX Cosmetics. She works with non-profits like the California Fire Foundation and Elizabeth Glaser’s Pediatric AIDS Foundation.

Martinez started her career at the largest privately owned PR firm in the United States and managed events, celebrity and press relations for luxury and lifestyle clients such as Refinery 29, Tiffany & Co., GUESS clothing, Restoration Hardware, Nintendo and Giuseppe Zanotti. She has played a crucial role in tactical campaigns for clients such as InStyle, Moët & Chandon, Kiehl’s, and Sprinkles cupcakes. During her early time as a publicist, Martinez led three book campaigns that landed her clients in the New York Times’ Best Seller list.

In 2015 Martinez opened The Brand Agency, a full service, entertainment marketing and public relations firm. Under that umbrella, she lead campaigns and PR strategies for brands and entities like K-Mart, Macy's, Amazon Prime Video, Motorola, Tradesy and Estee Lauder. In 2016 she expanded the company's footprint in the multicultural space by opening a media relations department that serviced clients and personalities in that space. In this position, Martinez continues pushing her diverse clients' messaging to the next level - through traditional PR, influencer programs, marketing initiatives, social/digital pushes and brand engagement.

The Brand Agency has been awarded “Agency of the Year” and “Best Client Public Relations Campaign” by industry trades and peer groups acknowledging the firm’s culture and client work.

Martinez contributes to industry publications like AdWeek and Forbes and been featured in trades like Yahoo Entertainment, Variety, and The Hollywood Reporter. In 2019, Martinez received the prestigious distinction of being one of BizBash’s top events public relations professionals in the United States.

After legalization of cannabis took place in California, Martinez observed that the industry was being underserved in the public relations and communications fields. The idea for 1795 Communications was hatched from this observation. As peers failed to keep up with growing demand, Martinez borrowed key learnings from her luxury and consumer lifestyle clients to provide unparalleled service to this new category. 1795 Communications is the first female led communications agency solely dedicated to the cannabis industry, its products, services and personalities.

MK Glenning

MK Glenning is a communications veteran specializing in the intersection of the entertainment and lifestyle industries. Throughout her career, Glenning has serviced household name clients such as Amazon Prime Video, Playboy, Christian Louboutin, FENDI, Saks Fifth Avenue, Netflix, Universal Music Group and W Magazine.

Glenning began her career in London where she worked at Jenny Packham, one of Britain’s most celebrated fashion houses. Here, she gained international experience and an understanding of the global public relations landscape. She then returned to  the United States and joined the public relations team at Dolce & Gabba in Beverly Hills where she helped orchestrate red carpet dressings for some of the most recognizable names in Hollywood.

She then joined The Brand Agency, an award-winning entertainment marketing and public relations firm, where she executed meaningful and result-driven press, influencer and marketing campaigns from thought to finish. Glenning has lead accounts for clients like Jen Atkin’s Mane Addicts, sbe Entertainment Group, Tradesy, GUESS, NYX Cosmetics and more. Glenning has worked on a number of celebrity-driven campaigns and partnerships such as Nick Jonas’ collection for Creative Recreation, BELLAMI x Dove Cameron, amongst others.

While Glenning continued to serve her lifestyle and entertainment clients, she watched closely as the legalization of recreational cannabis rolled out in California. She noticed her industry failing to keep up with the needs of cannabis clients who deserved to be serviced at the same level as her widely recognized labels and luxury brands. Thus, 1795 Communications, the first female-led communications agency solely dedicated to the cannabis industry, was born.
